Membership with the Charterboat Association of Puget Sound (CAPS) connects you to a respected network of professionals in Washington’s fishing industry. Whether you operate a charter vessel or support the industry in another way, CAPS offers a place to belong. In addition, members gain a stronger voice in issues that impact Puget Sound fisheries.

CAPS offers two primary membership classifications. First, Charter Membership is designed for active professionals in the charter fishing industry. To qualify, you must meet specific requirements outlined in our bylaws. For example, you may qualify if you own a vessel that is properly licensed as a fishing charter boat through the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. In addition, operators of such vessels may qualify if they hold a valid U.S. Coast Guard OUPV license or a higher-grade credential. Furthermore, individuals who own a business primarily focused on booking fishing charters may also become Charter Members.
Because of these standards, Charter Members represent the highest level of professionalism in the industry. As a result, clients and partners recognize CAPS members as trusted and qualified operators. Moreover, this classification ensures that all active members meet legal and operational requirements.

Second, CAPS offers Associate Membership. This option is open to individuals, businesses, and organizations that do not meet the Charter Member criteria. However, they still play an important role in the fishing and marine community. For example, tackle companies, tourism partners, and service providers often join as Associate Members. In doing so, they support the charter industry while building valuable connections.
In addition, CAPS membership provides opportunities for involvement and growth. Members can stay informed about regulatory changes, industry trends, and fishing opportunities. Furthermore, CAPS actively engages with state agencies and fishing organizations. Therefore, members benefit from representation in key discussions that shape the future of recreational fishing.
Equally important, membership fosters collaboration among professionals. By working together, members strengthen the charter industry and promote responsible fishing practices. As a result, CAPS continues to support both its members and the broader angling community. If you are ready to join a dedicated and professional network, CAPS Membership is the right choice. Therefore, we encourage you to apply and become part of a strong and growing association.
